The Tale of Dark Irina Nightingale Part 1 by Irina Nightingale

“IRINA! UP! NOW!”

Slap.

“Ouch!”

I sat up and immediately regretted it. My head was pounding, and the floor wouldn’t stay still. Glancing up, I saw a girl my age, with long red hair pulled back into a ponytail, and wearing a red tunic and boots. The left side of her face was badly scared, to the point that she had to keep one eye closed.

“Emma! What the heck did you do that for?!?!?”

Emma (the girl I mentioned above) glared at me.

“I’m sorry Irina, but if you haven’t forgotten, we’ve been captured by the Armada, thrown in this cell, and have been declared outcasts for practicing magic. And to top that all off, they think that we’re evil for being the descendants of Morgan le Fey, one of the greatest sorcerers of all time.”

“Hey! Emily and I don’t have magic!” That was Bridget, who, besides Emma, was one of my sisters. I glanced around the hold.

“They got us all, then?” Everyone nodded glumly. Just then, from up on the deck came the sound of banging, cannons, yelling and swearing. Footsteps sounded on the stairs down to the hold signaled that someone was approaching. I leapt to my feet, just in case that someone was a member of the Armada.

“I don’t see ‘em!”

“Shut up Lucas! Do you want the entire ship to hear us? And anyway, Avery said that they were here, so they must be.”

Two kids came into view. They were around the same age as us, and weren’t wearing Armada masks, which was probably a good sign.

They stopped in front of our cell, and the girl looked me up and down warily. She seemed to make her mind up about something, and grabbed one of her swords, slashing the lock off and opening the door.

“I’m Julia Hawkins, and this is Lucas de Boof. We were sent to get you out of here.” I nodded.

“My name is Irina Nightingale, and this is-“I broke off at the sound of cannon fire from upstairs.

“There will be time for introductions later. Right now, we gotta move!”

We ran up the stairs and to the upper deck, managing to get around the main battles. Julia led us to her ship, and we loaded on board before she raised anchor and set off. We were finally free. At that moment, if someone told me what would soon happen, I would have said that you were crazy as a cuttlefish. But as it turned out, some amazing things were going to happen soon. And not all of them were good.
