So, you don't have a membership to P101. You can still log-in and play.
The Free areas of Skull Island are still open to you.
Avery's Court
Skull Mountain
Skull Island ( includes the Ancient Tunnels )
Blood Shoals ( Traitor's Cave & Xol Akmul ) If you don't have the Quackosaur or Dinolizard pets; any SI boss has a chance to drop the Quackosaur & Orchid Chameleon, while Xol Akmul"s boss C'hok A'kab is the only source for the Dinolizard.
Skull Island Skyway - This is where you'll find the Dreadnaught. Not interested in going into the Dread ?( Or you can't because of the cabin glitch ) then shoot down Armada Scout ships for Nautical EXP ( if needed ) and scrip drops.
Devilfish Hollow, a very good place to farm for pet snacks or pet gear. There's a Tarantula boss on the upper level.
Other activities:
Practice PVP in the Spar Chamber ( behind Krakenskulls tavern ).
Ship PVP in the Watermole Village
Pirate's Regatta is also there, and drops of scrip is fairly high also this is where you can farm for Captain Swing's gear.
Pet PVP ( practice or against other pet trainers ).
If you have a Smuggler's Arena - invite friends to join you in your personal "Pit of Doom". scrip rewards.

Forgot to mention that Pet PVP is located on Bestia which is also a Free to Play area.
You can Morph pets there as well.

I didn't know that Ship PvP was a thing. Maybe I live under a rock? The Watermole Village, is that in the same area as the shops and ancient tunnels, the island attached to that area?

Go past all that ;there is a couple of bridges to an island that's the watermole village, but first talk to Mickey Dugan ( the pelican outside Avery's office ) to get the quest.
